The Tale behind Funky Monkey Photography

Once upon time, there was a woman named Justyna Nielsen, who spent her day hours in a corporate world complete with cubicles and all. While she has been interested in film photography ever since her childhood, it wasn’t until her daughter was born in 2006 that she discovered her true passion: capturing magical moments of childhood in photographs.

That’s when Funky Monkey Photography, LLC, was created, inspired by Justyna’s love of children and photography.

The Tale of the Artist

As an artist and a mother, Justyna relates to other parents who often wish they could freeze the time and enjoy their children being little just a bit longer. Justyna strives to capture these magical moments of childhood to last forever.

With her camera, she captures the intangibles – the insatiable curiosity of a toddler, the innocence of a newborn, the quirky personality of a child, the exhilaration of new parents, and the special bonds a family shares.

The best compliments she often receives from parents is how genuinely she captured their child just they way they are at this age.

A native of Poland, Justyna relocated to Wisconsin in her youth and attended UW-Whitewater focusing on business and photography. Justyna has continued to master her craft with education through WPPI, PPA and other portrait photography workshop. She thrives on finding innovative ways to express her creativity and enhancing her photographic style to create one-of-a-kind, unique art.

These days, she lives in the suburbs of Madison with her husband (also an artist) and their vivacious 5-year-old daughter who acts as her muse. The family frequents the Madison‘s Children’s Museum and local parks, enjoying the relaxed and creative atmosphere of the city.
