One of my favorite bloggers, Kelly, recently had a scare about almost loosing all of her daughter’s photographs. My heart sunk for them for just a moment as I couldn’t bare to think of loosing all of those memories preserved in images from her childhood. I know how much I cherish my own childhood black and whites and how much my husband wishes he had more. It’s a peak into a reality that you can barely or not at all remember. It turned out her husband was backing up their files in multiple ways and that’s why he was able to recover them in the end. Phew!
Here are some tips from him on how to make sure your own photographs are safely kept (see the entire post here):
“A few tips:
If you’re not backing up, you’re asking for it. start now!
Use multiple options:
1. On-site (external drive)
2. Off-site on-line back up service
3. Off-site (burn data to cd’s/dvd’s and put them in a safety deposit box @ your local post office)
Simulate that pending catastrophe by performing periodic restores from your backup(s). get comfortable doing this!
What’s your backup strategy???”
